Are you looking to start a career in SEND teaching?

We are currently recruiting graduates and aspiring teachers to join a two-year salaried teacher training programme within a supportive school in the Oxford/Bicester area.

The programme is designed for people who want to become teachers but would benefit from gaining practical school experience before moving into formal teacher training.

You'll be employed and paid from the start of the programme, with the opportunity to develop your skills in an SEND setting before progressing onto your PGCE and working towards QTS.

Your first year will focus on gaining practical experience working with pupils with special educational needs.

You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff and will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of SEND, classroom practice and pupil support.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with their learning and development
  • Working with pupils who have a range of additional needs
  • Supporting positive behaviour and engagement
  • Helping to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Working alongside teachers, teaching assistants and other school staff
  • Building positive relationships with pupils
  • Supporting individual pupils according to their needs
  • Observing experienced teachers and learning effective classroom strategies
  • Attending training and professional development sessions

The first year is intended to give you a strong understanding of school life and SEND education before progressing into formal teacher training.

Following your first year, you'll progress into a trainee teacher position and begin your formal teacher training.

You will work towards a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while continuing to gain practical experience in school.

As your confidence develops, you will take on increased responsibility for planning and delivering lessons and supporting pupil progress.

You'll receive regular mentoring and feedback throughout the year and will have support from experienced teachers and school leaders.

  • £22,000-£25,000 salary
  • Salaried position from the beginning of the programme
  • Fully funded PGCE
  • Opportunity to work towards QTS
  • Two years of school-based experience
  • SEND-focused experience
  • Regular mentoring and support
  • Professional development throughout the programme
  • A clear route into a permanent teaching career

We are interested in hearing from graduates and individuals who are serious about developing a career in SEND education.

You will need:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • A genuine interest in working with children and young people
  • An interest in SEND and inclusive education
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience and resilience
  • The ability to build positive relationships
  • A professional and reliable approach
  • A willingness to learn and take feedback
  • Commitment to completing the two-year programme

Previous teaching experience is not essential. Experience working with children, young people or individuals with additional needs would be beneficial but is not required.

The programme could suit a recent graduate, teaching assistant, support worker or someone looking to make a career change into education.

The programme is based within schools in the Oxford and Bicester area.

You will become part of the school community from the start and work closely with experienced teaching and support staff throughout your training.

This is an opportunity to gain valuable SEND experience, earn a salary and work towards becoming a qualified teacher.
