Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Minehead.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners who are accessing Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) provision and may have SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, while creating a calm, structured and positive environment where the learner can build confidence and re-engage with education.

Experience supporting young people with anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement, emotionally based school non-attendance or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

  • Providing personalised one-to-one tuition to a secondary-aged learner accessing EOTAS provision.

  • Supporting the learner with their academic and educational development across relevant subjects.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning needs.

  • Breaking down complex concepts into manageable and accessible steps.

  • Supporting literacy, numeracy, study skills and independent learning where appropriate.

  • Supporting GCSE preparation and examination skills where relevant.

  • Helping the learner develop positive attitudes towards education and learning.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Supporting a learner who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.

  • Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience and independence.

  • Encouraging engagement and gradually building positive learning routines.

  • Using the learner's interests, strengths and preferred learning styles to make sessions engaging and accessible.

  • Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety, school avoidance or challenging behaviour.

  • Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.

  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.

  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.

  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.

  • Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

  • Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged learners.

  • Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support.

  • Experience supporting learners who have barriers to mainstream education.

  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.

  • Experience supporting learners with anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement would be desirable.

  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

  • A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.

  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.

  • Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Reliable and consistent approach to work.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
