About the Role: As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will play a vital role in supporting a child with severe autism to access the curriculum and engage in learning activities. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to develop and implement individualized support strategies that cater to the unique needs of the child. Your patience, empathy, and understanding will be instrumental in helping the child to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a child with severe autism, both in the classroom and during individualized learning activities
  • Implement personalized support strategies and interventions to address the child's specific needs and learning goals
  • Foster a positive and nurturing relationship with the child, building trust and rapport to facilitate their engagement and progress
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure that the child's learning needs are effectively met within the classroom environment
  • Monitor the child's progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO, identifying areas for further support or development

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with severe autism or other complex needs, preferably in an educational setting
  • Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and knowledge of strategies for supporting individuals with autism
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children and colleagues
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting children with special educational needs
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) would be advantageous
