A well run and effective SEN School for Autistic and SLD learners in Lambeth is seeking to appoint an SEN teacher to teach a mixed KS3/4 ASD class. The school is part of an outstanding federation lof special schools. The school is a positive place to work where real support for staff is provided by a dynamic SLT, resources are well organised, equipment and facilities are top notch and worthwhile progress is produced through hard work, a great team ethos and a supportive SLT.
The SEN Teacher
I am seeking either an experienced SEN teacher who is comfortable delivering a cross curricula approach or an experienced mainstream teacher with an interest in special needs and a willingness to learn new skills and accept fresh challenges. Due to the nature of the class some ASD knowledge, good behaviour management skills, good rapport with staff and a positive open demeanour are key attributes for a successful applicant. However less experienced teachers with a year or two in mainstream education are encouraged to apply as there is a comprehensive induction and continual in job training programmes to help you make the transition and continue to make professional progress. This school is particularly adept at upskilling staff for promotion, there is a defined pathway into middle and senior management for those that want it although the headteacher also values teachers who just want to teach.
The SEN School
This Lambeth SEN school is under the leadership of an outstanding Headteacher who has created a stable and supportive SLT and workforce where all are encouraged to voice their opinions and where staff are treated with respect, dignity and encouragement. The Headteacher and SLT back the teaching and support staff to the hilt as they appreciate the challenges they face. To ensure staff morale and keep his eye on the ball she attends all teacher meetings ensuring that she doesn't become disconnected from the realities and dynamics within the school. Most importantly she knows all the students and their individual needs personally.
This Lambeth SEN school is made up of a highly regarded staff team who believe every child deserves to be able to access mainstream schooling and the national curriculum. The students have all been referred to school due to their inability to thrive in mainstream schools. Most are diagnosed as having Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues which means that they can be challenging. Classes are no larger than 8 pupils and as a result children are offered more individual attention than could be afforded in a mainstream school.
All pupils access a bespoke child focused curriculum developed around their specific needs, abilities and attainment potential. Lessons are creative, multi-sensory and a fantastic curriculum lead is on hand spending time in each class weekly to help coach outstanding practise, support lesson planning and assessment and to act as a sounding board or resource for teaching staff.
Apply today for immediate interviews subject to DBS clearance and sufficient referencing.
